Hello supporters, His Love and SONshine is giddy to share about the Uganda trip!
We had three days at the school! There are many aspects of the trip that hit me like a ton of bricks and seeing the purity in their faces was a dear gift in knowing that they have His joy even though they do not have much. All right the main points of take away were: There are around 165 students! Each of these children are eager to learn and LOVE Jesus! Their spirits radiate Jesus and seeing their hard conditions breaks my spirit yet they live out what it means that even in nothing they have everything.... The teachers make around $5 a day which even by Ugandan standards is not much money at all. They live humbly and yet out of their nothingness (which they truly have nothing) they give what they have away. Pastor Ernest and his wife, Catherine, who are the greatest example of such an act are the heads of the school. The wife was orphaned when young and has become a mother to the orphaned and her husband was imprisoned for his faith during Idi Amin rule. The first day of our visit at the school we felt the joy of Jesus radiate from the people. For many of the kids at the school they only get one meal a day. They eat porridge in the morning and posha which is like grit consistency with beans. We played games with the kids. We simply hung out with the kids, heard their hearts and their dreams. I learned their names.:) I talked to the children and boy are they are darling!!!!!!!!:):) Each child would SHOUT out Bible verses and they were 4 years old. The children would memorize the Bible verses!! We got to hear from the heads of the school share all that is going on at the school and their goals. His goal was to increase the salary amount the teachers. For example, our ministry has been able to pay for 12 teachers giving them $1,000 a month. As their school has changed in leadership and growing in a great way they have added a teacher and the teachers need more than a $5 day salary and our goal is to give them $2,000 a month. Sitting down and talking to them was an experience that I can't express through writing because one would have to be with them, hear their hearts, listen to their stories and hear what they do now. We were at the school for 3 days and got to read books, play games and just hung out with them!:) The first day we went and saw the new construction that they are building. They are building a new school building as there school building is extremely small and run down. The story on the school building: in short God provided $70,000 through a donor who was burdened by God to give money for the school project unaware that it was happening but felt His heart.
Here is a crazy interesting update from my friend Ava Weeks, "Generally in Uganda, reading is only taught up to P2, then the children are just expected to know how to read and go on their own."

Rachel GuyWhen Rachel Guy was in elementary school, she was fascinated by children in African countries; her heart was particularly drawn to children who had been orphaned. At the age of twelve, the country of Uganda became the focus of Rachel’s interest and concern when a close family friend, Nancy Wellham, invited her to join her on a mission’s trip there. It was on this trip that Rachel visited Gateway Nursery and Primary school and fell in love with the people there. Four years ago, Rachel was shocked when she was invited to start a ministry for the school. With humility and gratitude, she said, “Yes” to this unlikely adventure with God. Archives
