Ava Weeks
"My name is Ava Weeks and I have been working in Uganda with Sixty Feet since January, 2015.  Sixty Feet is closely connected to Maama Catherine's Children's Home as we have sent many children from the facilities where we work to Maama.  These children attend Gateway Nursery and Primary School, so I am closely connected to it as well.  I am a former teacher and love helping the school in any way I can.  The children at the school all call me Jajja. (grandmother in Luganda)  I tell people I have 11 grandchildren in the states and 400 in Uganda!"

Will and Eve Rumbaugh
They love the school. They are monthly donors. They have an extensive educational background.

Leasa Jones
She and her husband love the school. We sought her counsel and her husband’s about starting the ministry as they head up Wiphan after Shelly mentioned and they encouraged us to go forth.

Kris Eldridge
Kris loves the school. He promoted His Love and SONshine to my prior church last year and he was the mission's pastor!

Alicia Mazzura
She loves the ministry so much and is only in high school. Alicia will be doing the following for the ministry as she states, "I would love to help plan fundraisers, make baked goods, create promotional videos, and create any posters/graphic design-like things that you need because I just got Photoshop, so I can do a lot more with photographs and stuff. If you ever need help, tell me!"

Ken and Cindy O'Leary
They love the school. They're monthly donors and they went to Uganda with us.

Gateway Nursery and Primary School Uganda Trip 2018

Hello supporters,  His Love and SONshine is giddy to share about the Uganda trip!

We had three days at the school!

There are many aspects of the trip that hit me like a ton of bricks and seeing the purity in their faces was a dear gift in knowing that they have His joy even though they do not have much.

All right the main points of take away were:

There are around 165 students! Each of these children are eager to learn and LOVE Jesus! Their spirits radiate Jesus and seeing their hard conditions breaks my spirit yet they live out what it means that even in nothing they have everything....

The teachers make around $5 a day which even  by Ugandan standards is not much money at all. They live humbly and yet out of their nothingness (which they truly have nothing) they give what they have away.

Pastor Ernest and his wife, Catherine, who are the greatest example of such an act are the heads of the school.  The wife was orphaned when young and has become a mother to the orphaned and her husband was imprisoned for his faith during Idi Amin rule.

The first day of our visit at the school we felt the joy of Jesus radiate from the people. For many of the kids at the school they only get one meal a day. They eat porridge in the morning and  posha which is like grit consistency with beans.

We played games with the kids. We simply hung out with the kids, heard their hearts and their dreams. I learned their names.:) I talked to the children and boy are they are darling!!!!!!!!:):) Each child would SHOUT out Bible verses and they were 4 years old.  The children would memorize the Bible verses!!

We got to hear from the heads of the school share all that is going on at the school and their goals.
His goal was to increase the salary amount the teachers. For example, our ministry has been able to pay for 12 teachers giving them $1,000 a month.  As their school has changed in leadership and growing in a great way they have added a teacher and the teachers need more than a $5 day salary and our goal is to give them $2,000 a month. Sitting down and talking to them was an experience that I can't express through writing because one would have to be with them, hear their hearts, listen to their stories and hear what they do now.

We were at the school for 3 days and got to read books, play games and just hung out with them!:)

The first day we went and saw the new construction that they are building.  They are building a new school building as there school building is extremely small and run down.
The story on the school building: in short God provided $70,000 through a donor who was burdened by God to give money for the school project unaware that it was happening but felt His heart.

Here is a crazy interesting update from my friend Ava Weeks, "Generally in Uganda, reading is only taught up to P2, then the children are just expected to know how to read and go on their own."

A portion of an email update from Ava Weeks!"I was out at school today and took a couple of pictures of the children in their new uniforms. They are still waiting on the rest of the uniforms to be finished. I need to get a close up of the school logo. It is beautiful. I was able to take out two computers for the school to use and I found out that the computers being used for the students (I think there are 5) are also being shared with the office. Now they can have one just for the office and 6 for the children.
Amos also told me that they are borrowing a printer because they desperately need one! Can you imagine that they have been working without a printer for the past 4-5 years? Someone gave money for a copy machine last year, but unfortunately it wasn't used for that. We talked about the price of a copy machine that also prints, etc. and the cost is about $800. With the building they are in right now, we can't put a copy machine in because it will get stolen - one more reason we need a permanent structure!!
They started last week with 78 students and are now up to 150. They said that people will keep bringing new students through the first term which ends in May. We're still praying to reach 200-250.

The atmosphere at the school is wonderful!! The teachers are working hard and the children are so happy! Can't wait for you to get to see all of it in July!!!

Love,
Ava"

I am so very very joyful to announce that update!!!  Because we merely provide financial aid to fund Gateway Community School they have their dreams that they try to raise funds for by themselves and we pitch in.:) Due to their humility when they have nothing and they give it ALL I wanted to ask if you all would consider contributing a $29 contribution or more :) to His Love and SONshine to see that the school’s new building is funded( in my heart) even sooner than they would expect.:) I have a friend, Ava Weeks, who you will be hearing about in a specific manner in a blog about her as I mention her quite often, is also fundraising for them.:)

There are many new updates in regards to the school!!

Please see below: http://www.hisloveandsonshine.org/search.  You can go on my website and press “donate” to pay online if interested. :)

Be looking in your mailbox for a Christmas newsletter for His Love and SONshine.:)

    Rachel Guy

When Rachel Guy was in elementary school, she was fascinated by children in African countries; her heart was particularly drawn to children who had been orphaned.  At the age of twelve, the country of Uganda became the focus of Rachel’s interest and concern when a close family friend, Nancy Wellham, invited her to join her on a mission’s trip there.  It was on this trip that Rachel visited Gateway Nursery and Primary school and fell in love with the people there.  Four years ago, Rachel was shocked when she was invited to start a ministry for the school.  With humility and gratitude, she said, “Yes” to this unlikely adventure with God.
